Those of you that offer water aerobics how do you pay your instructors? Per hour? Per class? Are they contract employees or hourly employees? Currently we are looking at moving ours from contract employees to hourly for liability but are getting push back from instructors.

Most of our aerobic/fitness ( both land & Water) instructors are contract employees. We pay them 70% of revenue collected from their class on a monthly basis. They must complete a W9 Form to process payment. We do have some payroll staff that serve in other roles but also lead classes as well. They are paid an hourly rate.

We also do a 70/30 contract with our instructors as of now. We have tossed around the idea of hourly pay, but we weren’t sure we would be able to keep our instructors if we moved to that option.

In North Liberty we have both hourly water aerobic instructors and contract. Contract is 70/30 split. The only reason two of them are hourly is because they also lifeguard/pool manage and swim instruct, or else they would be contract.
