Does anyone at the end of the pool season have your lifeguards/summer staff submit a letter of resignation for the summer? We are wondering how other cities handle seasonal staff leaving? Do you have any of your lifeguards file claims for unemployment? TIA

In Marshalltown, our HR Department requires us to just terminate their employment at the end of the season. When we submit paperwork at the beginning we indicate what date they are to be terminated.

We don’t require them to submit a letter of resignation. When they are hired they are hired under seasonal and HR terminates them after the summer season and the outdoor pool closes.

We hire them as seasonal if they’re seasonal (we also have variable/year-round staff – this depends on hours allowed to work and intension with length of employment – they need to pick one or the other and can’t switch).
We ask for an email of resignation for all quits/terms – sometimes I need to track this down. I also term all of our seasonals on the same day and send them a huge email with details about end of season/term/rehiring.
