Hi all –
I’m working to advocate for an in-state academy in 2022 in Iowa City but I’d like to gauge interest.
Who is interested in attending and…
Are you already approved through ARC to attend an academy (approval is 1 year)?
Are you interested in WSIT, LGIT, or both?
Would you travel to Iowa City?
Feel free to email me if you’d rather or please share here.November 8, 2021 at 3:26 pm #3130Katie ToddParticipant
I would be interested in LGIT (already certified WSIT). I am not approved yet, but will meet the qualifications by next fall to qualify. Would like to go to Iowa City if it was offered and approved by HR.

I would be interested. But I am new and going to need to get my LGI and WSI first.January 4, 2022 at 3:46 pm #3266Brian KempfertParticipant
I would have staff that I would like to send to either or both of these.
How do you know if they’ve reached approval, or how do you become approved?January 4, 2022 at 4:41 pm #3267
Hi folks –
The Red Cross will host an academy in Iowa if we hit the 6-person minimum for approved IT applications for either LGIT or WSIT (or both – separately).
To do this they need approved IT applications on file with folks who are in Iowa.
You can learn about the process of applying here: https://www.redcrosslearningcenter.org/s/instructor-trainer-candidates
The application is valid for 1 year once you are approved.
We have a lot of upcoming LGI and WSI classes in Iowa City and I’d be willing to work with anyone on dates if they needed other options and could come to us. There are also some WSIT and LGITs that travel throughout the state to teach that may be able to bring a class near/to you.
Keep in mind that if you don’t have the requirements needed for WSIT or LGIT you can ask for an exception due to your job position as an aquatics professional. Email me if you have any other Q’s – I’m happy to talk through this as I’d like to see another group of WSIT/LGITs in the state!February 15, 2022 at 12:52 pm #3464
Iowa City is close to being approved as a site (contract is signed, just need councils approval) but we need 6 people in the state to hold a LGIT (or WSIT or both!) class in Iowa City. Once we are approved to be a site we’re only valid for 2 years.
I’d love to see a large group submit by the end of March so we can go to them and show we have a need and then work together to get a class on the books.
Please check out the requirements and let me know if you have any questions –
Note: there IS a section where you can ask for special approval if you do not meet the requirements but your job title/role may require it. Please look into that if you do not meet the LGI minimums, especially.
