ParticipantHi Kate!
I would be interested in LGIT (already certified WSIT). I am not approved yet, but will meet the qualifications by next fall to qualify. Would like to go to Iowa City if it was offered and approved by HR.

ParticipantA session about how to talk to the different people at the pool including:
Staff- how to encourage them to work/do well/come back next year without being too much of a “friend” (sweet spot)
Patrons- how to talk to patrons about different problems they bring to your attention (example: why a rule is a rule, safety concerns, maintenance concerns, etc).A topic about confidence/how to take ownership of the pool
A shallow water drowning prevention talk
How to facilitate and create “buy-in”, how to prevent burn-out

ParticipantWe have the potluck on the 4th of July and the banquet is at our August staff party, which is usually the first or second Sunday night in August before all of the guards leave for college. That is a great idea to have it later after the season is over!

ParticipantIn Ankeny, we have a few programs that are daily/weekly including high fives that are read off each week at in-service, 2 guards of the week that receive a floating guard keychain, and pool bucks for use in the concessions stand. We have a staff pool party in August and have staff olympics in July, along with a 4th of July potluck. We also do the road to the finish the month of August, which gives incentives for number of hours worked. At the end of the year, we do 3 big awards for Top Gun, Rookie of the Year, and Swim Instructor of the year, that receive a gift card and a framed certificate.
